Happy 2013 everyone!!

We're kicking off the New Year with our fourth studio tour from the super talented author/illustrator Alison Hertz whose debut picture book Flap was released in November of 2012.  Check out her website here.

And now for a peek at her workspace:

  1. This was so awesome and inspiring! What an amazing workspace! Now I feel totally humbled by your organizational skills and how you keep projects visible so they don't become "out of sight and out of mind." Plus, my workspace usually looks like a hurricane hit my office... I need to clean, right now!

    Thanks for sharing!

  3. What a busy (and super-organized!) illustrator you are! And neat, too. :-)

Love your composition notebook with story ideas--I think I'll switch to that system. I file story ideas, but as you said, when out of sight, they're out of mind. I need a notebook right next to my laptop!

    1. I also keep a notebook in Evernote on my phone, ipad, and computer. I often come up with story ideas or plot points while driving or out and about and dictate them into my phone using talk to text in Evernote. Then it automatically syncs with my ipad and computer so my idea is there when I get home and sit to write.

    1. My arm is injured so I need to shake off the pain caused by the fine motor action of drawing with so gross motor movement and juggling is perfect. I was in the circus many years ago and once you learn, you never forget.

  6. Alison! Great tour! I really enjoyed your inspirational quotes around the room. Seems like common sense, but man we all need to hear words like courage over and over! And the kids' art is wonderful as a reminder of who we are writing for :)

  9. Happy New Year Alison! That must be pretty cool to be able to juggle - hope we get to see a circus book someday too, or at least hear some fun anecdotes!

  10. Thanks for sharing, Alison! I, too, laud your organization/neatness skills. My studio is of the hurricane-ish variety most of the time. (It's on my New Year's to-do list...!)
